— 352 compositionsDining room
The one composition in a house people sit right under and look at all evening.
Above a table a composition hangs lower than anywhere else and ends up at eye level. Hence two requirements: the light must not glare, and the form has to survive close inspection — people look at it through the whole dinner.
Proportion follows the tabletop, not the room: the composition reads as a continuation of the table. Too small and it disappears on a long top; too large and it looms.
Suspension height
Usually 70–85 cm above the tabletop: the light falls on the table and people can see each other.
Proportion to the table
The composition is chosen by the length of the tabletop, not by the floor area of the room.
Round and oval tables
A long table takes linear compositions; a round one takes pieces gathered towards the centre.
