A composition about what has not yet opened. The bud is coiled into a spiral: a sharp point at the top, a soft shell below, the edge running inward on a smooth twist — an unopened tulip or a rolled calla leaf. The author takes the form at the moment before flowering, when everything is ready and nothing has been shown.

The field is dense with a sagging centre, so the composition reads equally well from below and from the side — from an upper floor or from the stairs. Volume is built not by the number of sources but by cross-reflections: every element is mirrored in the gloss of its neighbours.

By day it is a white cloud with cold highlights — pure plasticity, a quiet and graphic piece. In the evening the buds fill with warmth and the fine spires above them disappear, and the flowers seem to hang in the air by themselves.

There is a mirrored version of the same element: a smoky silver surface with gold spires. The same silhouette turns from a tender cloud into a graphite storm cloud with gold sparks — an entirely different temperament.

Where it works

Double-height living rooms, lobbies, stairwells, banqueting halls. The sagging centre sets the lower boundary — clearance is needed beneath the composition.

Style

Art Nouveau and contemporary classic: a botanical motif without ornament. The message is tender in the white version and dramatic in the smoky one — one piece for two different interiors.
