A composition about a stroke of the pen. The ribbons are coiled into rings and loops — as though someone had written in the air in one continuous movement and left the trace. The form is not assembled, it is drawn.

The device is that the ribbon has two layers: a polished mirror surface outside, a ribbed glowing band within. The light is visible only from the inside of a coil, and the composition changes constantly as you walk around it — from one point you see the blind backs of the rings, from another their open glowing interiors.

By day it is metallic graphic work in the air: mirrored coils living off reflections, a dense dark piece. In the evening it acquires a second face — a fiery one: the warm bronze version reads as a melt, the cold silver one as a ribbon of magnesium burning in the dark. An object with two characters at once.

Where it works

A strictly vertical format several metres tall — stair flights, atriums, narrow tall entrance halls where the composition is visible from several levels at once. The change of faces reads only when the viewer moves.

Style

Contemporary sculpture and brutal opulence: one gesture instead of a composition. The message is artistic — an object-piece for a space that wants a statement.
