A composition about smoke set up as a wall. Clear tubes stand in a vertical row, alternating with slender gold rods; inside every tube a fibrous texture is visible — fine twisted streams, like smoke in still air.

The tubes are built up from sections of different lengths, and each section is caught by a gold collar. The collars sit at different heights, so a stepped rhythm of lights runs across the panel. The panel stands as a straight wall or bends into a wave.

By day the screen reads as a row of clear verticals with a silver drawing inside: it separates the space without closing it off. In the evening light comes out of the collars and travels along the fibres, and the drawing inside the tubes shows through as glowing threads.

Where it works

Zoning — the line between a living room and a dining room, a screen by an entrance or a staircase, a backdrop behind a reception desk. The drawing inside the tubes is visible close up, so the screen belongs where people walk past it.

Style

Natural minimalism and Japanese aesthetics: a drawing inside the substance instead of decor on the outside. The message is contemplative — a piece that divides without walling off.
