A composition about directed sound. The bell is a form from the world of sound, not light: a horn, a gramophone trumpet, a megaphone. The author uses its chief property — a bell does not diffuse, it aims.

Outside, the bodies are opaque, graphite and matte — in the dark they do not read at all. Inside, polished gold or mirrored silver. The elements are turned at random: some mouth down, some sideways, some almost up.

By day it is a cluster of metal flowers — a dark, dense, graphic mass below the ceiling. In the evening the bodies disappear and only the open mouths remain: the gold ones give a warm honeyed glow, the silver a cool white one, and each throws a narrow directed beam. A gathering of luminous funnels suspended in emptiness — a swarm of spotlights facing every way.

Where it works

Living rooms with high ceilings, lobbies, restaurants, stairwells, zones above a round table. Directed light lets you pick out specific points: a table, a bar counter, a picture.

Style

Industrial luxury and steampunk minimalism: a technical form presented as something precious. The message is bold — a piece for an interior with character.
