A composition about the snowflake. No two are ever alike, and the piece is built precisely on that: more rays here, longer ones there, an off-centre hub elsewhere. Not one element repeats another, and this is not decoration but a condition of truth.

The mass is sparse: there is plenty of air between the elements and the whole depth is visible. The stars hang at varied levels and orientations, some flat, some edgewise.

By day it is a set of crystals suspended below the ceiling: clear rays read through highlights at their ends. In the evening the light enters each ray at its inner end and travels outward, flaring at the tip as a bright point with a radiant halo. Every star gives its own glow, in proportion to its rays — a swarm of flashes at varied depths. Snowfall caught by a camera flash.

Where it works

Generous rooms — lobbies, atria, double-height living rooms, banquet halls. The sparseness needs volume: compressed, the composition loses its depth.

Style

Nordic modernism and contemporary classicism: winter as motif, the crystal as form. The message is festive and cool — a piece for a light palette.
