A composition about ripple. Thousands of narrow plates of varying length fold into a spiral that twists downward through several floors. Polished mirror, matte and clear are intermixed — three behaviours of light within one mass.

The device is separation: the light lives only in the ends of the clear strips, runs their whole length and breaks out below as a bright point. The mirrored ones do not transmit it at all — they only reflect their neighbours.

By day it is strict graphic work: vertical strokes of varying density, almost a draft drawing read through lines. In the evening the spiral comes alive — light runs from level to level, the composition shimmers like scales or like ripple under a lamp, and seems to be turning slowly.

Where it works

Very tall spaces — stair shafts, atriums, panoramic lobbies with double or triple height. The spiral is designed for a specific height and a specific route of ascent.

Style

Contemporary sculptural installation and kinetic art: movement with no mechanism. The message is monumental — a piece that sets the scale of a building.
