A composition about an inverted organ. Ribbed columns with capitals descend in a V-shaped cascade — pipes taken out of the instrument and hung in the air. The form has kept its solemnity and lost its support.

Light fills the ribbing along the whole length: every column sings with its own light, and together they give a chord rather than a unison.

By day it is strict vertical graphic work: cylinders with gold capitals, read through rhythm and ribbing. In the evening the ribbing fills with light over its full height and the cascade turns cathedral-like — the piece gives a space its vertical and its rhythm the way music gives it tempo.

Where it works

Lobbies, atriums, banqueting and conference halls, double-height living rooms. The V-shaped cascade requires height and a frontal view.

Style

Art Deco and cathedral classicism: the organ as a symbol of solemnity. The message is monumental — a piece for a formal hall.
