A composition about a summer evening. The firefly is the only insect people find beautiful, and only because it glows. The author builds the whole piece on that: the sources are hidden in the rods, yet it seems the swarm itself is alight.

Rods of varying length hang in dense hatching and set the volume — some gold, some clear. Hundreds of small winged figures are set among them, unevenly distributed: denser below, sparser above, with individuals straying far from the mass.

By day the composition reads graphically — a rain of lines in which the figures are barely distinguishable. In the evening every rod ends in a point that flares as a star, and the thin amber wings transmit that light and fill with it. The hatching stays cool and almost invisible, and in the dark all you see is a swarm of fireflies over water.

Generous rooms — lobbies, atria, stairwells, panoramic living rooms, winter gardens. Vertical hatching works with height: it establishes a volume that a low room does not have.
