A composition about a creature without a skeleton. The jellyfish is a body held together by water; taken out of its medium it stops being a form at all. The author gives it its medium back: a vertical rain of small pendants hangs around the figures, and the shoal exists inside it.

The dome is faceted, assembled from triangular plates with visible ribs — like a geodesic dome or a carapace. The tentacles do not hang straight down but stream sideways and below: the jellyfish is being carried by a current, and you can see it.

By day it is a shoal of creatures suspended in the air — amber bells with runs and patches of differing density, a fine clear fringe beneath them. In the evening the light passes through the amber, the domes glow from within with their net of ribs showing through, the tentacles pick it up and carry it their whole length, flaring at the tips, while the rain around catches the reflections and shimmers. An immersion into deep water.

Where it works

Generous volumes — atria, lobbies, pools and spas, double-height living rooms, children's spaces. The streaming tentacles need height: the space beneath must be clear.

Style

Marine Art Nouveau and contemporary sculptural installation. The message is narrative, almost theatrical — a piece that turns a room into a stage.
