A composition about what has fallen. The magnolia sheds its petals whole — they lie on the ground uncrumpled and stay beautiful for another day or two. The author takes exactly that moment: an armful of fallen petals lifted into the air.

Each petal is elongated, twisted on its axis and pointed at the tip, each with a slightly different bend — the mass looks alive. Hundreds of elements are laid in layers, level at the top and ragged below; the upper third holds a sparse hatching with small points.

By day it is an armful suspended in the air: milky white, calm, read through silhouette and soft shadow. In the evening the matte surface diffuses the light, each petal glows along its whole length in an even warm tone without flare, and because the layers are dense the glow passes onward. The composition gives soft light with not a single hard point — a cloud lit from within.

Where it works

An elongated horizontal format — long dining tables, banquet and wedding halls, lobbies, meeting rooms. Glare-free light is comfortable where people eat and work beneath it.

Style

Romantic modernism and contemporary classicism: bloom at the point of fading. The message is tender — a piece for a bright interior.
