A composition about a shaving. A narrow twisted ribbon with close transverse scoring along its length — a curl taken off by a blade. A form from the workshop, not from nature: it arises only as a by-product of work, and the author makes it the subject.

The ribbons hang vertically, slightly turned, in tiers, level at the top with a wavy lower edge. The upper third is taken up by the hatching of bare cables with cool point lights.

By day it is a shaving taken off a block of ice: clear, read through ribbing and highlights on the coils. In the evening the light enters from above and spreads along the ribbing, so each ribbon glows in strokes rather than as a patch; transparency opens all the layers at once, the front one and everything behind it. The composition reads right through and looks like a mass made entirely of light.

Where it works

An elongated horizontal format — long dining tables, bar counters, lobbies, meeting rooms. Transparency needs a dark backdrop: against a white ceiling the piece disappears by day.

Style

Industrial minimalism: a production form treated as an aesthetic object. The message is contemporary — a piece for an interior that values honesty of form.
