A composition about a thrown handful. The elements are laid out in a free circle — denser at the centre, sparser toward the edge, each turned differently. There is no strict grid, only a general circular field: the piece reads as a handful cast onto a plane, not as a set pattern.

The form is an elongated curved grain with faceted sides, slightly twisted, its planes meeting at random angles. Warm polished gold is mixed with cool mirrored silver.

By day the object works through reflection: the polished facets catch the light of the room and give each grain its own band of highlight, and because the facets face different ways the composition shimmers and shifts as the viewer moves. Warm and cool reflect differently, and a temperature rhythm appears across the field. In the evening, under directional light, the wall turns into a field of sparks.

Where it works

Feature walls — halls, living rooms, stair landings, reception areas, dressing rooms. The effect depends on directional light: allow for a track or spots.

Style

Contemporary Art Deco and minimalism: a scattering rather than a composition. The message is light and expensive — a piece for a wall that needs no subject.
