A composition about a candle with no flame. Every clear petal is coiled along a spiral — a form somewhere between a calla leaf, a sail and a tongue of fire; below, a sharp point with a gold tip, above, a fine tube with a point of light. One form reads three ways, and the author does not choose between them.

The cascade is triangular: long elements at the centre, short ones at the edges, the lower edge converging into a sharp wedge.

By day the cascade reads as a cloud of transparent highlights — an almost invisible mass living off reflections. In the evening light enters from above and travels the whole length: a vertical glowing vein flares inside every petal while the form itself stays invisible. A swarm of candles suspended in the air; as you walk around, the elements overlap and the drawing changes constantly.

Where it works

Stairwells, double-height living rooms, the zone above a round table. The wedge below sets the lowest point — clearance in height is needed under the composition.
