Light as art

Lighting composition

LC0284

A whirlwind coiled around a spiral staircase. The composition does not hang in the shaft, it passes through it — from the top floor to the bottom, accompanying whoever is coming down.

The light enters the end of each rod and runs downward: the result is rain falling along a spiral — a movement that does not occur in nature. Because of the helical geometry the piece reads differently from every floor: a funnel from below, a cascade from the side, an open rose from above.

By day it is an architectural structure — precise, engineered, with a legible frame. In the evening the frame disappears and what remains is a whirlwind of light with neither axis nor fixings in sight.

Where it works

Tall verticals only: stairwells, atriums, panoramic halls of several levels, double-height lobbies.

Style

Contemporary luxury and high-tech: open staircases, glazing, metal, large scale. The message is the vertical — the composition turns moving between floors into the main event of the house.

The height of the spiral, the number of turns and the density of the fringe are all made to order.
