Lighting composition
LC0133
The same galaxy taken at scale. Here the dishes are gathered not into a sparse group but into a dense multi-tier mass — several dozen elements, broad at the top, narrowing below.
Density changes the piece in substance: where the smaller version left emptiness between dishes, here one overlaps another and the light passes through two or three layers in a row. The spirals of bubbles lay over one another and give a depth no single element possesses.
By day it is a cloud of clear forms — many-layered, read through highlights, almost colourless. In the evening a sky full of galaxies opens from below: hundreds of glowing spirals at varied distances, the near ones sharp, the far ones blurred. From above, only the net of cables receding to the ceiling. A star chart hung overhead.
Where it works
Generous rooms with high ceilings — atria, lobbies, double-height living rooms, stairwells. The layering exists only when seen from below at a distance.
Style
Contemporary sculptural installation with a scientific motif. The message is large-scale — a piece for a space that should astonish.
The overall size, the number of elements, the number of tiers and the density of the spirals are all made to order.
