A composition about the sun in a drop. Light reflects off the inner surface of every hemisphere and gathers into one bright point — the same optical focus a dew drop gives in the sun. The author builds the whole piece on it.

The shell is so thin that it reads only through highlights and contours: the composition is astonishingly light, almost absent.

By day, close up, it is a collection of lenses each holding its own reflection of the interior — a piece to be studied; from a distance it is all but invisible, only an iridescent cast along the edges. In the evening a point of its own flares in each hemisphere, and the cloud begins to shimmer with hundreds of small suns.

Where it works

Light spaces — white walls, panoramic windows, minimalist living rooms and lobbies. Against a pale ground the composition argues with nothing, because it has almost no colour of its own.

Style

Contemporary minimalism and optical art: transparency as a device. The message is lightness — a piece for an interior that does not want to add weight.
