A composition about a planet with a core. At the centre of each disc sits a gold hemisphere — at once heart and source: the light spreads from it toward the rim, losing strength exactly as it does around a star with a centre and a fading corona.

The discs are set at varied angles: some almost flat, some on edge, some obliquely. The bowl is shallow, the discs overlap here and there, and through the front layer you can see the second and the third.

By day it is a scatter of soap bubbles — clear circles with a bluish, iridescent cast, read through highlights. In the evening a fine glowing line flares at the rim of each disc, and because the layers overlap, each one lights its neighbour: the composition reads as a volume filled with light, not as a set of lamps. A cluster of planets with burning cores.

Where it works

Living rooms with high ceilings, dining rooms, lobbies, meeting rooms, zones above a round table. The layering reads from below: the piece is hung above the area where people stand or sit.

Style

Cosmic minimalism and mid-century: the circle and the point as the entire vocabulary. The message is contemporary and clear — a piece for an interior of pure geometry.
