A composition about an object let go. A table lamp is a thing whose name says everything: it stands on a table. The author takes that silhouette, multiplies it and lifts it into the air. The move is ironic and therefore instantly recognisable.

Dozens of small "lamps" hang as a dense cloud, each with its own tilt and height — as though they had only just been released and had not yet fallen into line.

By day it is recognisable silhouettes beneath the ceiling: ribbed skirts on fine gold stems, a piece read through form and repetition. In the evening light burns in the stem and floods the skirt, turning each into a glowing pleated bell — a swarm of table lamps with no table.

Where it works

Above a long table, in cafés and bar spaces, in lofts, in meeting rooms — wherever a joke is welcome. The dense swarm gives even light along the whole length of a zone.

Style

Postmodernism and contemporary design: the quotation of an object instead of an ornament. The message is witty — a piece for an interior with a sense of humour.
