A composition about equilibrium. A disc on a fine needle axis — a spinning top stopped in perfect balance: a position that in reality lasts fractions of a second.

The swarm hovers at differing heights; the monochrome makes it light and strict at once: the composition plays on light and form alone, without one colour.

By day it is clear parasols on needles — a piece read through silhouettes and ribbing, light and almost graphic. In the evening light burns in the axis beneath the disc, and the ribbed surface drives it round in a silver radiance: every top acquires a glowing halo, and the swarm begins to seem to be turning.
