A composition about a repeated gesture. One and the same form — a disc with soft concentric waves — is taken in different calibres, from a saucer to a tray. Rings on water arrested in an object, and then multiplied across scales.

The tiers overlap like the roofs of a pagoda: the East read in the language of modernism.

By day it is milky discs on mirrored funnels — a piece read through the silhouette of the tiers and the soft waves on the surface. In the evening light burns in the funnel and spreads across the waves of the disc, tracing every ring: the rings on water begin to glow from the centre out.

Where it works

Living rooms, dining rooms, lobbies, meeting rooms. The pyramidal assembly requires height — pressed to the ceiling, it loses its tiering.

Style

Oriental modernism and mid-century: a pagoda kept from the literal. The message is calm and Eastern — a piece for an interior that values rhythm.
