A composition about kelp in a column of light. The ribbons wind around a vertical frame — they do not wrap it decoratively, they reach upward, as weed reaches for the surface. The vertical is full of movement: the ribbon seems to be still growing.

Sparks are scattered through the mass of the amber ribbons — the suspension you find in water lit from above.

By day it is a warm amber spiral on cold chrome: a contrast of two temperatures read through highlights. In the evening light travels down the ribbons, igniting the sparks in the mass and the gloss of the bends — the light descends into the depth as it does in real water.

Where it works

Staircases, bay windows, tall wall piers, atriums. The vertical takes little floor area and works where there is no room for a bulky composition.

Style

Marine Art Nouveau: the weed as a natural motif without stylisation. The message is warm and organic — a piece for an interior that avoids straight lines.
