A composition about a rising vortex. Crescent ribbons wind around a vertical axis like petals caught in a current — the movement is directed upward rather than down, which for a suspended composition is unnatural and therefore noticeable.

White and dusty blue are intermixed, the surface glossy; a chrome axis rules the vertical right through.

By day it is fresh white-and-blue graphic work on chrome — a light, airy piece read through the silhouette of the crescents. In the evening points of light in the bends lift the gloss from inside the stream, and the vortex begins to read as a direction: the glow runs upward, as though the current were accelerating.

Where it works

Light interiors — staircases, bay windows, double-height living rooms, spa areas. The vertical requires height: the vortex is built upward and does not read in a low room.

Style
