The regular hatching of water and the free movement of living things inside it. The whole idea rests on that contrast: the rain is dense and even, the shoal sparse and unruly.

The fish give no light: the gold ones reflect, the white ones stay silhouettes. What glows is the medium, not its inhabitants — the reverse of the usual device, and memorable for it.

By day the composition reads as a shoal in clear water: you see both the fish and the hatching. In the evening the water lights up and the fish recede into shadow — the medium comes forward and crowds out those who live in it.

Style

Marine modernism and resort luxury: water, white stone, pale timber. The message is that the medium matters more than the figure — a composition about how water defines everything within it.
