A composition about prayer beads. The beads are strung several to a rod — larger above, smaller toward the bottom — and each strand ends in a drop. Diminishing calibre is an old device of rosaries and necklaces: it gives the strand direction and weight.

The array is dense, level at the top with a wavy lower edge. Above the composition runs a sparse net of bare rods with point lights, receding to the ceiling.

By day it is a row of hanging rosaries — a honey tone, large irregular faceting with planes of differing size, read through shine. In the evening the light enters the topmost bead and is passed down the whole strand from stone to stone, refracting on every facet: the amber fills from within, the composition gives a warm honey glow with no direct source at all, and the holders between the beads flare as sharp points. Drops of resin lit right through.

Where it works

An elongated horizontal format — long dining tables, bar counters, meeting rooms, reception areas. The wavy lower edge sets varying heights above the table.

Style

Art Deco and Eastern opulence: the strand of stones as a classic of formal decoration. The message is warm and rich — a piece for a table where people linger.
