Lighting composition
LC0465
A composition about a nest woven out of gold. An oval wreath of interlaced branches carries clusters of drop-flowers — the form reads both as an upturned basket and as a nest: something plaited rather than assembled.
Every drop is tilted at its own angle, and a source looks downward out of each.
By day it is gold plaiting with white clusters — a piece read through the interlacing of the branches and the rhythm of the drops. In the evening light goes down from every flower: the composition delivers genuine illumination and not only an image, and a field of light pools of differing strength appears beneath it.
Where it works
Above a table in a dining room, in a meeting room, in a restaurant, in a reception room. The downward light makes the piece a formal chandelier rather than a decorative object.
Style
Art Nouveau and formal classicism: the nest and the basket as motifs of abundance. The message is hospitable — a piece for the table people gather at.
The diameter of the wreath, the number of drops and their tilts are all made to order.
