Light as art

Lighting composition

LC0394

A composition about different phases of flowering. The buds are turned in different directions, some open, some only just parted — a thicket rather than a bouquet: a real plant never flowers in unison.

The matte surface kills highlights and makes the colour deep, almost watercolour; chrome rules a cold graphic between the flowers. Cut petals open up the interior of the bud.

By day it is a dense turquoise-green with occasional whites — a fresh, resort register read through colour. In the evening light comes out of the opened buds as an even warm radiance, and the cold turquoise acquires a warm core: a thicket lit from within.

Where it works

Light interiors, spas, winter gardens, pools, dining rooms. Coloured light tints the air slightly — neutral surfaces are needed nearby.

Style

Art Nouveau and Mediterranean classicism: the tulip in a cool register. The message is fresh and resort-bound — a piece for an interior at rest.

The number of buds, the balance of turquoise to white and the length of the vine are all made to order.
