Ice from a river shallow, set on edge. The surface is rough, chipped, full of inclusions — the substance is deliberately left imperfect, because perfect ice does not exist.

The light enters from above and gets caught in the mass rather than passing through. The plate glows not against the light but from within, diffusely, like a real floe under a low sun.

The ring form closes the composition on itself: it has no front and no back, it is equally composed from any side. A crown with every point alight.
