Light as art

Lighting composition

LC0113

A composition about the valve. In a scallop the fan pattern is not decoration but structure: the ribs hold the thin valve together. The author takes that logic — here the ribbing works too, and what it carries is light.

The elements are turned in different directions: some lie almost flat, others stand on edge. The bowl is shallow, denser at the centre and thinned at the edges.

By day it is a scatter of shells below the ceiling — white, matte, read through the light and shade across the fan of ribbing. In the evening the light from the gold heart spreads along the ribs toward the wavy rim, and the whole structure of the valve emerges against the light. The glowing centres face different ways, and the composition looks different from every point — a field of luminous fans.

Where it works

Generous rooms — lobbies, double-height living rooms, dining rooms, spas and pools. Because the elements face every direction the piece has no "front": it is placed where people walk around it.

Style

Marine Art Nouveau and Mediterranean classicism: the shell as one of the oldest decorative motifs. The message is light and coastal — a piece for a bright interior near water.

The overall size, the number of elements, the calibres and the tone of the glow are all made to order.
