A composition about soft and hard. Rounded scaled buds — and straight rods set obliquely between them. Two forms with nothing in common: one grew, the other was drawn. The author sets them against each other on purpose.

The buds form a dense lower mass with a ragged upper contour, a few rising high above it. The rods, by contrast, pierce the upper zone at varied angles and work as hard graphics against the rounded forms.

By day it is a botanical study laid over a drafting grid: white matte cones and gold lines. In the evening the light lives in two places at once — it emerges from under the scales, lighting the buds from within in a warm milky tone, and runs as a line along the rods, turning them into glowing strokes. Diffuse and linear glow together: a field of fruit stitched through with gold.

Where it works

Living rooms with high ceilings, lobbies, stairwells, restaurant floors. The rods extend beyond the envelope of the main mass: allow clearance to the sides.

Style

Contemporary sculpture and Bauhaus graphics: nature against geometry. The message is intellectual — a piece for an interior that likes contradiction.
