A composition about an underwater landscape dissolved in air. The piece lights less than it creates depth: curved plates swim in a funnel through the body of the space, and above them shimmers a scattering of white points — plankton near the surface.

The finest drawing of coral veining on the turquoise and smoky plates reads close up and disappears at a distance.

By day it is a calm turquoise-and-smoke mass: the colour reads against the light, and the composition creates a sense of depth in daylight already. In the evening the points above the funnel flare as suspension, the plates go into shadow, and a body of water appears in the room where only what is nearer the surface can be seen.

Where it works

Spas, pools, bathrooms, interiors in a marine register. The composition is atmospheric rather than working — separate functional light is needed with it.

Style

Marine modern and bio-design: coral and plankton as motifs. The message is contemplative — a piece for a space where people unwind.
