One turn of the spiral, taken off the staircase. An arc with its dense fringe of faceted rods is lifted out of the great vertical and hung on the wall — a fragment that was one step in the composition has become a piece in its own right.

The device is kept: the light is woven into the arc rather than hung from it. The structure itself burns, and the fringe only passes the light on.

By day it is a golden arc with a clear fringe: the piece reads through its line and the highlights on the facets, compact and precise. In the evening the arc lights up from within, the rods break the light into sparks, and a glowing step appears on the wall — a fragment of ascent with neither beginning nor end in sight.

Where it works

Staircase flights, halls, corridors, reception rooms. Especially apt beside composition LC0406: on a staircase the wall lights carry the spiral along the wall, repeating its pitch.

Style

Art Deco and formal classicism: the step as a module. The message is ceremonial — a piece for a formal wall.
