The same scene in a green register. Flowers of two kinds — clear olive-green and milky white — open as wide bowls; between them hover chrome hummingbirds with white breasts.

The green bowls work as stained glass: light passes through and tints the air beneath the composition a grass tone, while the white ones stay neutral and balance the colour. The chrome birds reflect everything around them and seem almost liquid — the only elements with no appearance of their own.

By day the object reads as a botanical study in the transparent: green on chrome, a fresh and light piece. In the evening the light burns deep in each bowl, the air beneath the composition turns green, and the garden turns out to be lit from within with the birds held still inside it.

Where it works

Vertical and compact in footprint — a stairwell, a bay window, a narrow double-height space. Coloured light noticeably changes the tone of a room: neutral surfaces are needed nearby.
