Cold fire — a contradiction placed at the base of the piece. The colour is not a warm pink but a crimson with violet depth: the elements look lit even with the light switched off.

The form, meanwhile, is entirely of fire: twisted tongues reaching upward, a dense vertical group. The eye reads flame while the colour says the opposite, and the object stays inside that mismatch.

Fine gold rods between the elements provide a second light part — pointed, sharp, keeping the composition from going vague.

By day it is a sculpture of dense, almost jewel-like colour. In the evening it is a bonfire burning crimson: a fire whose warmth has been taken away and whose light has been left.
