A composition with a plot — the rare case of an object that does not decorate a space but tells a story.

The birds are held in different phases of movement: one is diving, another hovers, a third is only approaching. The flowers wait. Between them is that instant before contact for which the whole thing was assembled.

The dusty lilac was not chosen for prettiness. The muted colour pushes the blossom into the background and brings the birds forward; in the evening the roles reverse — the flowers light up from within and become the stage while the birds go to silhouette. One object, two performances.

By day it is fine botanical graphic work: dusty lilac blossom and gold birds read as silhouettes. In the evening the stage turns over — the flowers fill with light from inside, the birds go into shadow, and the object becomes a theatre with the stage lit.

Where it works

The vertical format was made for stairwells and double-height living rooms: the stage has to be seen whole, top to bottom. Also good in a bay window, a winter garden, a generous bedroom.

Style

Contemporary classic and neoclassicism — pale walls, mouldings, soft furniture in pastel tones. The message is romantic: a piece for someone who wants a plot in the house, not simply a source of light.
