The same magnolia at another hour. The crown is loosened, the branches are drawn apart, and the garden turns from a dense sphere into a spreading branch — the twilight is the same, but there is more air in it.

The proportion of open to closed has shifted: there are more open cups, and the crown stops being mute. There the drama rested on darkness, here it rests on the pauses between the flowers.

By day it is a sculptural branch with a rough cast texture: heavy, muted grey, read through silhouette and gaps. In the evening light comes out of the cups in warm patches, lights the neighbouring petals from within and flares on the gold of the branches — the flowering appears in turn rather than all at once.

Where it works

Sitting rooms with high ceilings, stair flights, lobbies, private studies. A spreading branch is built across: it needs the length of a wall or a zone, not height alone.

Style

Dark luxe and Art Nouveau in an evening reading: a natural form served as a jewel. The message is intimate and grown-up — a piece for an interior with character.
