A composition about the surface of water seen from below. The plates hang almost horizontally, in layers, and the composition is gathered into a broad oval with a sparse centre — this is how water looks when you are beneath it.

The whole surface carries the texture of ripples: close undulating folds of the kind wind leaves behind. The form is oval with uneven edges — no plate repeats its neighbour, because ripples do not repeat.

By day it is a set of ice floes suspended below the ceiling: saturated turquoise, clear and opaque passages intermixed, the piece read through colour. In the evening light is fed into the rim and spreads along the ribbing, so the ripples begin to glow in strokes, while the thickness gathers the light at the edges and traces every plate with a bright line. The gold fixings stay warm points in a cold field. Water lit from the depths.

Where it works

Generous rooms — lobbies, pools and spas, panoramic living rooms, dining rooms. The horizontal set reads only from below: the piece is hung over an area where people stand or sit.

Style

Marine Art Nouveau and organic modernism: water as motif, colour as argument. The message is cool and refreshing — a piece for an interior in a cold palette.
