A composition about what draws them in. The light is hidden inside the tangle, the butterflies sit outside — the piece literally shows the reason they are here: a swarm come to the flame. Cause and effect are shown at once.

The rods are woven into a sphere with no order at all, crossing and jutting outward to form an open cage. The butterflies have settled unevenly: clustered in one place, leaving the cage bare in another.

By day it is a gold tangle covered with white figures — dense, sculptural, read through silhouette. In the evening the light escapes from within through every gap between the rods, lighting the butterflies from below and behind; the wings turn translucent and fill with milky white, and the rods flare into lines. From outside you see a sphere whose surface does not glow — its core does.

Where it works

Living rooms with high ceilings, stairwells, lobbies, wedding and banquet halls. The sphere reads from every side — it is hung in the volume, not against a wall.

Style

Art Nouveau and romantic classicism: the moth drawn to light as an eternal subject. The message is poetic — a piece with a story inside it.
