Decorative composition
LC0005
A composition about plumage. The plates within each row are inclined identically, while the rows themselves rise, fall, twist and straighten again — together they give the effect of a feather or a crest laid down by the wind. The form changes completely with the viewpoint: the piece has no principal face.
There are hundreds of plates, each fixed at its own angle. Uniformity within the row and freedom between rows — the whole plasticity rests on that.
By day it is a surface built from scales: white ribbing read through light and shadow, calm and dense. In the evening the light grazes the plates at a sharp angle and brings out the ribbing — some rows light up entirely, others stay in shadow, and a wave of light and shade runs the whole length. There are no hard points: only grazing light. A wing across which light runs.
Where it works
Large spaces — atria, lobbies, conference halls, retail galleries, double-height living rooms. Grazing light means the piece gives little general illumination and works as an architectural element.
Style
Parametric design and contemporary architecture: the array rather than the object. The message is monumental — a surface-piece, not a luminaire.
The overall size, the wave pattern, the number of plates and the surface finish are all made to order.
