Fireplace décor

LC0249

A hearth in the middle of a cliff. The upper part hangs above the fire — an opaque mass suspended so that a gap remains between it and the hearth, through which the flame is visible from every side.

The texture is weathered: vertical cracks, chips, patches of moss. The object looks like a fragment of a cliff face lifted out of a landscape and set down in a room together with the fire that burned at its foot.

By day it is a sculptural column — heavy, stony, silent. In the evening the hearth is lit and the composition becomes what it was conceived as: a campfire beneath an overhanging rock, the oldest interior there is.

Where it works

Living rooms with high ceilings, lobbies, spas, terraces, winter gardens, restaurant floors.

Style

Brutalist luxury and organic modernism: unworked stone, timber, large volumes. The message is the primal — fire and rock, the things people gathered around before there were houses.

The dimensions, the character of the rock and the fuel type are all made to order.
