Mirrors

LC0083

A composition about growth rings. The frame is built from concentric rings of varying thickness, and the rings are irregular — they wander in width and sit slightly off centre. This matters in principle: a tree section and ripples on water are never regular, and turned geometry would kill the image.

The mirror itself is convex, and that changes what it is for. It gathers a whole room into a small circle — window, ceiling, furniture, the view beyond — and the reflection comes out compressed, as through a fisheye lens. The piece is not for checking how you look; it is for seeing a space entire.

By day the frame reads through texture: antiqued gold with patina, almost white in places, elsewhere drifting into warm ochre, with fine bluish veining between the rings. In the evening, under side light, the rings throw deep shadows and the frame gains volume — turning from graphics into relief.

Where it works

Entrance halls, living rooms, studies, bedrooms, corridors — wherever an accent is wanted rather than a functional mirror. The convexity distorts the reflection: it does not serve for getting ready.

Style

Organic modernism and antique classicism: the Flemish convex mirror in a contemporary reading. The message is collector-minded — an object, not a household item.

The diameter, the number of rings, the gilding finish and the depth of the convexity are all made to order.
