Mirrors
LC0080
A composition about a ripple on water. Soft undulating folds spread from the centre in uneven circles of varying depth and width, welling over one another and never repeating. The frame looks laid by hand rather than cast — this is how water spreads from a thrown stone.
The opening is irregular, with soft lobes along its contour: the frame approaches it as a wave, without a hard boundary. The transition between reflection and relief is blurred.
By day the palette is restrained, almost beige — pale antiqued gold with cool bluish veining deep in the folds and wear on the crests. The object does not read as gilding; more as weathered wood or plaster. In the evening side light brings out the full depth of the folds, and the frame spreads around the compressed convex frame of the reflection.
Where it works
Entrance halls, bedrooms, living rooms, boudoirs, corridors. The restrained palette suits bright interiors where gold would be too loud.
Style
Organic modernism and wabi-sabi: irregularity and fading as virtues. The message is quiet — a piece for an interior that avoids shine.
The diameter, the depth and number of folds and the gilding finish are all made to order.
