Light as art

Vargov®Design

Decorative composition

LC0356

A composition about scales. Cones are threaded in rows so that each is turned point outward and its neighbour points back: the result is dense scaling, like the skin of a pine cone or a coat of mail. The device is protective in origin — the author makes it decorative.

A smoky tea-brown tone mutes the light to amber. The floor lamp deliberately does not light the room — it tints it.

By day it is a dense dark column with a rich texture, almost an architectural detail: a piece read through relief and the shadow between the scales. In the evening the light pushes out between the cones — each tip catches fire, and the whole vertical is covered with a net of warm sparks. A column with a fire inside it.

Where it works

Corners, wall piers, the zone beside a staircase. In a pair the floor lamps work as a portal — flanking an entrance, a fireplace, a sofa. The muted light means a separate source is needed for reading.

Style

Dark luxe and Art Deco: texture and muted amber instead of shine. The message is intimate and evening-bound — a piece for an interior in a dark palette.

The height, the diameter of the column, the depth of the smoky tone and the finish of the frame are all made to order.
