Light as art

Landscape sculpture

LC0325

A backwater seen from above. The bowls are laid overlapping, like leaves on still water — with no order and no centre, arranged the way the current arranged them.

Traces of working are left deliberately: scratches, streaks, an uneven patina. The composition is meant to look touched by time rather than to look as though it came off a line.

By day the object stays dark and matte: darkened bronze with the marks of working, scratches and an uneven patina. In the evening the light strikes upward into the underside of the neighbouring leaves and only a glimmer escapes — bronze on the outside, hidden gold within.

Where it works

A ceiling or wall format; works as an independent art object: an entrance hall, a private living room, a spa area, a study, a restaurant.

Style

Art Nouveau and vintage luxury: antique furniture, dark wood, aged surfaces. The message is noble ageing — a piece that will only improve over the years.

The number of bowls, the character of the patina and the points of illumination are all made to order.
