Presence without a face. The figure is reduced to silhouette, pose and drapery — there are no hands and no features, and because of that the object stops being a portrait and becomes a sign.

The drapery is rigid yet looks fluid: you can see the tension at the hip, the sag at the feet, the turn of the shoulder. The gold ornament along the hem is applied with blackening and reads in relief — the one detail permitted to speak.

By day it is a sculpture of pure plasticity — dark, quiet, demanding to be walked around. Under directional light the folds gain depth and the figure seems to take a step.

Three viewpoints are shown: the object is made for viewing in the round and has no reverse.
