Lighting composition

LC0165

A composition about the crack as ornament. Crazing is usually counted a defect: a net of fine cracks across a surface. Here it is rubbed with gold, and damage turns into drawing. The device is Japanese in spirit — kintsugi, where the break is not hidden but emphasised.

The branches are woven into a long horizontal band with side shoots. The leaves are turned at random: some show a white crazed back, others open a hot gold interior. Every lining is gilded in full.

By day it is a branch with whitened foliage — frost, old glaze, something time has touched. The crazing reads as graphics on white. In the evening the light strikes the gold linings and emerges reflected and warm; the white stays cool while the gold in the cracks catches the light and traces a glowing net across every leaf. A crown with gold burning between its leaves.

Where it works

An elongated horizontal format — long tables, kitchen islands, meeting rooms, reception areas. The crazing is seen close to, so the piece is hung lower than usual.

Style

Wabi-sabi and European classicism in one: the marks of time presented as value. The message is collector-minded — a piece for someone who values texture over shine.

The length of the branch, the number of leaves, the density of the crack pattern and the gilding finish are all made to order.
