Wall composition
LC0162

A composition about masonry made of grain. Elongated forms with rounded sides — a grain, a pill, a river stone — are laid in dense rows offset by half a step. The author takes the logic of a brick wall and replaces the brick with an organic form: strict construction, soft element.
The gaps are narrow: the screen comes out almost continuous but not solid — air and light pass through the slots. The elements are turned slightly at random, and that stops the row from being machine-made.
By day the surface is calm and almost monochrome — white with occasional gold insets, a wall as a wall. In the evening the backlight emerges from behind the plane along the contour of every element: the white grains read as separate volumes with a halo, the gold ones catch the light across their whole surface and flare. The monolith breaks up into hundreds of outlined forms.
Where it works
Zoning generous rooms — a partition between living room and kitchen, a screen at an entrance, a wall in a reception area, a backdrop behind a bar counter. An almost continuous plane gives more privacy than an open-work screen.
Style
Organic modernism: a natural form in a strict grid. The message is calm and architectural — a background piece, not an accent.
The screen dimensions, the number of elements, the ratio of white to gold and the lighting scheme are all made to order.
