A composition about what is inside a flower. From outside the piece is closed — only the white matte surface of the petals, laid in overlapping layers. From within something quite different opens up: a dense net of fine spokes and rods radiating outward, with the light node at the centre. A flower head whose entire core structure is on view.

The form changes completely with the viewpoint: from the side it is a flat disc with a fringe, from below an open flower with a burning centre. One piece and two different objects.

By day the composition reads through form: a white half-open bowl, calm and graphic, concealing how it is built. In the evening the light emerges from the centre through the gaps between the petals, lighting them from within, while the frame casts fine vein-like shadows across them. The flower turns out to be transparent to its own light.

Where it works

Living rooms, dining rooms, lobbies, reception rooms, zones above a round table. The principal view is from below, so the piece is hung above an area where people stand or sit rather than pass through.

Style

Organic modernism and mid-century: a natural form with its structure exposed. The message is rational and warm — a piece for someone who values how a thing is made.
