Light as art

Vargov®Design

Decorative composition

LC0077

A composition about a piece of earth lifted into the air. The volume is entirely covered in preserved moss — dense, velvety, with an uneven living surface; the form is irregular, with projections and hollows. This is not an abstraction but a fragment: a part of forest taken out and hung up.

Openings are cut through the body, framed by metal craters with ragged rims, like a drilled bore. The device rests on a collision of textures: soft matte organic matter that absorbs light entirely, and hard mirrored metal that throws it out.

By day it is a fragment of forest suspended in the air — deep green, light-absorbing, with occasional metallic flashes at the craters. In the evening all the sources hidden inside the mass emerge only through the openings: craters of differing calibre face different ways, and the light spreads unevenly, in patches. Rock with holes burnt through it.

Where it works

Generous rooms — lobbies, restaurants, winter gardens, spas, showrooms, meeting rooms. Preserved moss needs no care or watering, but dislikes direct sun.

Style

Biodesign and brutalist modernism: living texture against metal. The message is ecological and hard at once — a piece for an interior with a contemporary agenda.

The overall size, the number of craters, their calibres and the metal finish are all made to order.
