Floor lamp

A composition about coal. Black outside, heat within — a device as old as a campfire, brought here to a form. Crumpled discs of deep black with a mirrored gloss: each pressed in at the middle and rolled at the edge, as though a finger had been laid on it while the form was still soft. The load-bearing structure is polished gold, and it shows only in the gaps.
The discs are set in layers, turned in different directions, covering the gold with themselves. The column reads as a black mass with metal breaking through from beneath.
By day it is a dark monolith — a thing that absorbs light rather than giving it back. In the evening the mass opens: narrow hot bands emerge, lighting the gold linings. A pair of these lamps flanking a sofa in a dark room gives no general light — they set two vertical columns of glow with the scene held between them.
Where it works
A dark palette and dramatic light — living rooms in deep tones, private studies, bars, lounges, showrooms. They work better in pairs than singly.
Style
Dark luxury and brutalist modernism: black with gold, no lightness at all. The message is masculine and club-like — a piece for an interior that does not flirt.
The height, the number of discs, the gilding finish and the depth of the black are all made to order.

@vargov_design →Another composition made for a client who sees the difference Floor lamp / light sculpture LC0195 A cluster of glossy black elements gathered into a dense rhythm recalls both organic forms and acoustic horns pointing in different directions. The black gloss works as a visual pause, absorbing the form, while the inner golden surface reflects and amplifies the warm light. This creates an effect of depth: the light does not simply radiate but seems to ‘live’ inside the object. The metal post and base in warm gold underline the vertical and give the composition architectural rigour. The lamp looks monolithic yet remains dynamic — each element catches the light at its own angle. This is not functional light in the usual sense but an interior accent, an object of attention and mood. It works equally well in minimalist spaces, dark interiors and as a contrasting art object.
